The Department of Genetics was established in the year 1982. After the decision of the Executive Council of the University, the Biochemistry course was merged in this Department and renamed as the Department of Biochemistry & Genetics in 2009. It offers programmes leading to the degrees of M.Sc. in Genetics, M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Genetics. It imparts teaching and training in major fields like Plant Tissue Culture, Human Genetics, Cytogenetics, Population Genetics, Behavioural Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Biochemical Genetics and Biochemistry.
