The Department of Yoga was established in the year 1994. It conducts the courses in Yoga Science. Under these courses, it imparts teaching and training in several fields such as Anatomy & Physiology (Modern & Yogic), Patanjal Yoga, Principles and Practices of Yoga according to Hatha Pradipika, Gherand Samhita, Shiv Samhita and Vashistha Samhita, Indian Philosophy (Shad-darshana), Mental Health, Yogic Practices. Shuddhi Kriyas, Asanas, Pranayama and Mediation, Teachers Training. Case Study related to scientific research in Yoga and Human Consciousness, Ayurveda, Naturopathy and various diseases etc.
The Department of Yoga functions with a view to attain the main objective of bringing the benefits of Yogic Science to peoplein general and students in particular for their overall development (Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual). The Department also works towards building a value based education system and inculcating Indian culture and values among students. The activities of yoga Department have been helpful in creating self-employment opportunities for students by conducting practical and useful yogic courses. The Department of Yoga has made significant contributions to attain the objective of its formation by functioning very successfully and effectively over 13 years. The lack of resources never stopped it from making outstanding progress.
Yogic Therapy is today a revered medical science. The Department of Yoga has been conducting Yogic Therapy classes since more than 10 years for the benefit of University employees, their families and general public and has taken care of a large number of patients. The education on Yoga is imparted through Practical and Theory Sessions, Lesson Plans, Group Discussions, Case Study, Educational Tours, other studies and Practice Teaching, Seminars, Workshops, Lecture series, Yoga Camps etc.
Yoga is such a vast subject, on its wide range it covers Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Therapy, Complementary and Alternative Medicine related subjects etc. hence for promotion of research related activities in the department, M.Phil. and Ph.D. have been started.

Ph.D. IN YOGIC SCIENCE
This department is an approved research center for conducting Ph.D. Students can apply for Ph.D. under the registered supervisors of the department. After taking consent from the chosen supervisor the student may obtain registration form and ordinance 14 by paying Rs. 3600/- (Non refundable and likely to be changed). The form and ordinance is available from the Ph.D. Cell/Academic Section of the University. Six months after filling the form the student has to face a Research Degree Committee (RDC) after which, if approved, he / she will be registered under the supervisor. Other rules apply according to Ordinance 14
Ph.D. in Yogic Science--This Department is an approved research Centre for conducting Ph.D.
